Maiko is the protagonist of Period 4. Fed up with a classmate, she sets out to find the ghost haunting the old part of school to rid of him once and for all.

Maiko has short light-colored hair framing her face with several, thin strands sticking out and layered bangs. She has feminine eyes.

Her clothing is casual and she is only seen in one outfit; a long-sleeve top with an opened jacket, checkered scarf, shorts with fluffy trim and a pair of boots worn with leggings.

Personality[]

Maiko appears to be a tomboy known for her very messy eating habits and getting hungry often. She can be rude without meaning to be and is stubborn. She also has a temper and isn't good at school so she gets picked on by Shimizu a lot for her short-comings.

History[]

Maiko eagerly wanted to check out the rumor about the ghost of the school and suggested it to her friends when she bumped into Shimizu. She became very frustrated when he insulted them for believing it and his cruelty reminded her of the many times his mockery made her attempt to change herself as they grew up. She decides to test the rumor to get rid of him once and for all, sneaking inside that night and nervously exploring until she gets confronted by ghosts and is forced to run for shelter.

Shimizu locates Maiko and is forced to help her when she reveals she got hurt. They make conversation and she is surprised by his kindness towards her, so much that she is unable to tell him the truth. They run away from a serpent monster and she accidentally screams, alerting several more monsters to their location until spotting the ghost girl nearby. She pleads for her to return them to safety, and once outside Maiko tearfully goes on to confess to Shimizu what she was going to wish when he stops her, admitting his own cruelty being unjustified. He suggests they sort out any problems they have face-to-face next time and Maiko agrees. They reunite with their friends and decide to head to the shrine.

In the epilogue Maiko recalls leaving her backpack and phone behind.
