Yomi is the ghostly narrator of Screaming Lessons. The spirit of Yumi Akimoto, a bullied school girl who took her life. She now haunts the home ec room where this incident took place.

Appearance[]

As Yumi, she had long wavy brown hair and empty eyes. As a ghost she remained this way but with the lower half of her body missing, the remnants of flesh beneath her navel partially burnt and tattered. She is usually seen in a school uniform with a pectoral red bow tie.

After becoming Yomi, her golden eyes became cat-like and she is often depicted smiling.

Personality[]

Yomi is calm and friendly with an easy-going but playful side. She enjoys telling stories and seems to value her bond with the Reader, greeting them and asking that they turn to her when troubled or just to talk now and then. She's likely to tease others and play little jokes, but she is capable of showing empathy to those truly deserving of it. Like most girls, she has an interest in things like cute fashions and hair styles, sweets and romance. She strongly despises bullying though, and she will get involved if she thinks she has to. But don't expect her to make it easy, she will still put the Protagonist through whatever it takes to ensure they learn and grow from the experience.

As Yumi, she was a bit awkward when it came to interactions with other people and kept to herself, implying that she was shy or antisocial. Genuine kindness surprised her, and she had a tendency to push others away at first.

Life of YUMI / YOMI[]

Yumi was an average school girl bullied by her classmates when their Teacher wasn't around. She had an acquaintance, a girl named Makoto Housoka who felt bad for the way she was treated, but she was too afraid to stick up for her. Yumi grew tired of their abuse and one day in the Home Ec room, she started an explosion that killed her and the leader of her bullies, her lower-half having been blown off and unable to locate in the damage.

Yumi's ghost remained in the home ec room as rumors of her started. It was said that a ghost girl without her lower body would kill anybody who saw her, but this was eventually proven false when Yuu Mizuki saw her and lived. He attempted to get her to leave with salt from a nearby shrine but failed, and after realizing she wasn't evil, he made it his goal to make her happy in order to let her pass to the afterlife. As he told her about his childhood friend, Shiori, her bullies tore off the charms of the shrine nearby, releasing a horrific spirit that intended on eating everyone when they later returned to the room. Yumi sealed the angered spirit within herself, causing her to transform. Mizuki was no longer able to see her from this moment but Yomi remained, making conversation with the angry spirit. It threatened her but decided for now to show the darkness of humans in a classroom full of fear; giving birth to the "Screaming Lessons".
