Once Rui uses the Hell's Clock she is taken back to the moment when she confessed, and after coming up with a flimsy excuse they part ways. During the party held for him, he manages to encourage Rui by reminding her of how positive he always was growing up, but they end up bickering soon after.

She was shocked to find out that he also had a Hell's Clock in his possession, which the Ghost offers to let her use if she gives her something in return. Rui agrees, and was taken back to the day when she confessed her feelings. But rather then do it this time, she asks him if he has a Hell's clock. Kei is stunned, but he goes on to reveal that he intended on using it to go into the future, having been worried for her. But in the end it felt wrong and he couldn't bring himself to do it, he has faith in her and didn't think it was necessary.

Rui confesses to Kei and quickly tells him that if he only sees her as a friend it's fine, but she wanted him to know. Before Kei can respond, the ghost reappears, revealing that she will be taking Kei's life away as payment. Kei is stunned and he asks Rui if she used the clock, and she confesses that she has. She apologizes for being so weak, but she had decided that she wants him to see her as the strong person he knows she is, and she thanks him for always being by her side. Rui asks the ghost to take away her future as compensation in place of Kei and she throws herself over the nearby railing of a hill.

Five years have passed and Kei has remained in their town, visiting Rui every single day in the hospital. She has been in a coma and Kei promises to remain by her side. He sets down a bouquet of flowers to represent the anniversary of the accident. But to their surprise, Rui suddenly wakes up. They happily embrace as the staff celebrate her recovery.
