Premise[edit | edit source]
Nana and Nono Ninose couldn't be any different, and with Nono being so popular, Nana has come to resent her. But for one day she gets the chance to experience life as Nono!
Yomi's Introduction[edit | edit source]
Yomi lines up a pair of twins and brings up how they look exactly alike. She asks if its hard to tell them apart, then wonders how differently they are on the inside. She suggests they are observed for a little bit.
Summary[edit | edit source]
One day, Nana bluntly tells Nono that she wants to quit being twins. She hates being confused for Nono, everyone mixes them up. As if to prove her point they are joined by Nono's friends, who approach Nana by mistake to bring up how lucky it is for her to be a starter on the basketball team. Nana bitterly turns away as Nono awkwardly tries correcting them. It's then the girls suggest they attend karaoke later. They consider inviting Nana until they see she's already leaving them, leading them to remark on how different they are.
Nono is cheerful and bright, so it's always been this way. Everyone prefers someone like her in comparison to a loner like Nana.
In gym class, Nono effortlessly scores another point for her team. Anyone who missed must run laps now, and Nana is frustrated as she is one of them. She isn't good at basketball like Nono is. A handsome classmate runs by her just then, and to Nana's surprise he turns to speak to her, asking if she is feeling alright. Nana claims she is fine; but she is actually very happy. He seems to be the only person who cares more about her then Nono- or so she thought. He requests her help as Nono's twin sister, and with a serious expression he explains how he would like to get to know more about her.
Enraged by this as she gets home, Nana throws her school bag across the room. It's always been this way. She was always the un-favorite twin, she always got ignored. Not only did she not stand out because of how quiet she was, but she was picked on and people would mockingly ask if they were really twins or not. She hates Nono for making her life so crappy. Nana begins to cry until she spots a nearby magazine that has fell to the floor, opened on a page with an Ad that says "how to make your life more like hers".
Picking it up, Nana quickly scans the page and becomes tempted to try out whats written on it. She imagines how well liked she would be, having her crush return her feelings, and being good at what she likes. She wants all of that. However, does it really work?
Nana hops online to look more into this Ad, where she finds people who have reviewed it and supposedly tried it out. It should work for her if it worked for them. On the next page she finds the list of instructions: she must write down her name and the name of the one she wants to swap with, including their birth-dates, then offer something bodily and put it into the paper, then close it to make sure nobody else sees what is inside. While trying to figure this out, Nana notices some hair in a comb nearby.
The following morning Nana gets awoken by her mom, who addresses her as Nono, but when she looks in the nearby mirror, she sees that she looks normal. Like Nana. But for some reason, she was called Nono, which she asks her mom about. She insists she couldn't mix up her daughters, and Nana looks to see that Nono looks the same also, but she is called Nana.
They really have swapped places!
Nana goes to school alone when Nono complains not to be feeling well, and she is caught off guard when Nono's friends run up to her. They are unable to tell a difference and Nana is left in awe as they bring up going to karaoke once school ends. They are joined by more girls and Nana is very happy to have some actual friends.
Unfortunately, Nana realizes that while she and Nono have switched identities, she hasn't obtained her sisters skill. She does poorly during gym class, but the other girls assure her its fine because it makes her seem more "human" to them and they feel relieved knowing they're not the only ones to mess up sometimes. Nana is very happy to have Nono's accepting friends, and she recalls how different things were back in her old life.
It's then Nono arrives, and everyone is surrounding Nana. Nana can see her and how nobody pays her any attention, and while she feels remorse for this, she reconsiders a moment later. She's always been lonely, so why should she feel bad?
From now on she will be Nono Ninose.
As she gets to know Nono's friends, Nana is quite surprised as it dons on her that she's actually cheery and bright, just like Nono is. But she is Nono now, and Nono was always like this.
Later, as they arrive for club, she finds a girl in tears over the cruel words someone wrote all over her shoes. Nana is very concerned but her friends suggest they leave her be, then they seem worried noticing she isn't smiling now, which is unlike her. Nana quickly pastes on a smile to avoid letting them notice anything else, and she reasons that this girl -Yoshihara- probably did something to deserve it. She then says she has to return to class as she forgot something, and she runs off.
Nana frowns as she thinks about Nono and her overwhelming smile. It's become tiring having to always act so happy like that. It's then Takatsuki calls her, much to her surprise. As she prepares to answer she anxiously wonders if he could possibly be confessing to Nono -correcting herself by saying she is Nono again- and he brings up their previous discussion. He asks her to stop bullying others, which startles Nana as he brings up her and her friends harassment of other basketball club members. The Teachers and other students turn a blind eye to it but he's had enough, as the captain of the boy's team he won't stay quiet about it. Nana is shocked and asks what he is speaking about, and he yells at her to stop being so ignorant.
Nana attempts to say she isn't a bully but she becomes frightened when he warns her that someone might seek revenge sooner or later. She sets her phone down and bumps into her sisters desk, where a threatening note falls out. While wondering who would have put this in the desk without her notice, she sees Yoshihara standing near her. She is frightened when she sees her vacant expression and the knife in her hands, and she can hardly scream out that she isn't Nono before it comes her way.
Nono arrives to class and sits down with a magazine. She was really tired of always being so happy all the time, and she wasn't Nana's twin for nothing. She knew what she was doing, and she happened to come up with the same idea.
From now on she will live Nana's life, and she can enjoy it peacefully because Nono is dead.
Nana's bloodied corpse lays on the floor, the switching paper and Nono's cellphone laying nearby.
Yomi's Epilogue[edit | edit source]
